Hello,
My name is Emily. I have been a student at Kwantlen since 2006. I am a fourth year student majoring in Criminology and am planning on starting the honours program in September 2013. My academic interests lie in Social Justice as well as motorcycle history and culture. On a more personal note, I am an active minimalist and try to promote this way of living every day as I believe simplicity in one’s life leads to greater understanding of everything else. I also regard myself as a somewhat spiritual person and believe that everything that we do in life has both good and bad consequences around the world therefore I try my best to be mindful of the present and the choices I make every day. I decided to enroll in this course to gain a better understanding of the concept of “Terrorism” and to understand its meaning in our world today. I am coming into this course blind. I will whole heartedly admit that I often ignore anything to do with war and violence around the world because It more often than not makes me extremely emotional. I love to focus on the good things people do in our world, being grateful for everything I have been given and by focusing on these things I feel healthy. However, war and violence in this world is part of our reality and I am aware that by simply ignoring the injustices I am living a life of ignorance. I hope that this class will help me gain a more objective understanding of global injustices and hopefully guide my every day actions to promote fairness, equality and justice for everyone.
